UL
strengthens presence
in South Asia by acquiring
Magnus Textile Services
corporate news
UL, a world leader in
advancing safety, has
announced the acquisition
of Magnus Textile Serv-
ices, a leading textile test-
ing and inspection facility
based in Bangladesh.
The addition enables UL
to locally serve many of
the world’s top textile
manufacturers from one
of the largest and fastest
growing textile exporting
nations.
UL is a premier global
independent safety sci-
ence company with more
than 118 years of his-
tory. Employing more
than 9,000 professionals
in over 100 countries, it
has five distinct business
units – Product Safety,
Environment, Life &
Health, Knowledge
Services, and Verifica-
tion Services – to meet
the expanding needs of its
customers.
Magnus provides a
robust suite of textile
performance testing and
inspection services that
are trusted by many of
the world’s most rec-
ognized retailers and
brands, including tests
for dimensional stability,
color fastness, physical
performance, construc-
tion and composition. UL
intends to add chemical
testing to the facility’s ca-
pabilities later this year.
“We’re thrilled to join
one of the most recog-
nized names in product
assurance,” said Jess
Magnussen, Managing
Director of Magnus. “UL
brings a breadth of serv-
ices, a depth of expertise
and a global platform that
will benefit our people
and our customers alike.”
“Magnus helps us
advance our commitment
to delivering trust and
assurance throughout the
textile supply chain,” said
Sajeev Jesudas, President
of UL Verification Serv-
ices. “By adding a high-
integrity laboratory at a
major hub in South Asia,
we’re now operating at
the heart of a high-growth
softlines industry.”
Magnus is UL’s second
quality assurance test-
ing acquisition in seven
months. The Quality
Assurance (QA) business
of STR Holdings joined
UL in August 2011 as
a leading provider of
testing, audit, inspection
and responsible sourcing
services for the consumer
products industry.
Recognized as an ap-
proved testing laboratory
by numerous European
national bodies, including
the UK (BMI) and Den-
mark (DANAK), Magnus
will join UL-STR as
part of UL’s Verification
Services unit.
Magnus provides
services for international
standard laboratory test-
ing and quality inspec-
tions of textiles both at
the time of manufacturing
and export.
Owned by Danish
nationals, Magnus is a
textile laboratory, quality
and consulting center in
Dhaka, offering expertise
and consulting services to
improve quality, produc-
tion and economy for
buyers and manufacturers
of textiles and garments.
