In 2011-12, Sutlej clocked a turnover of Rs. 1541.70 crores compared to Rs. 1585.46 crores in the previous year. It has established its annual capacity to process 20 million metres of fabric and to manufacture 1.6 million pieces of trousers, and 2.5 million metres per annum for home textile furnishing using 32 shuttless looms and 4.9 million metres per annum (60 looms) for fabrics manufacturing. With 253,000 spindles and 336 rotors for cotton yarn and man-made fibre yarn, Sutlej has invested Rs. 110 crores on modernisation over the past three years ended 2011-12.
Sutlej is one of the largest Indian licensed producers of value-added yarn varieties through consumption of Modal, a special fibre from Lenzing, Austria. It also specialises in cotton and cotton-blended dyed yarns and other vital products like modal, lycra, tencil, coolmax and other value-added yarns. It has developed the capability to manufacture any shade of yarn without compromising on quality.
The company’s R&D Division is always active for development of new products, cut in production cost and improvement in quality and productivity. To carry out these activities, the company has development and design centers at its different units, well equipped with most modern facilities and managed by a committed team of highly qualified and experienced professionals. Latest equipments like evenness testers, HVI spectrum, Tenso Jet-4, AFISPRO LMNT, yarn classimate, online monitoring system, lab expert system all from Uster, auto dispenser, beaker dyeing machine, yarn and fibre sample dyeing machines, water level controller in jet dyeing, computerised color matching systems with sophisticated light boxes, simple end warping machine, and design computers with latest software ensure that the products turned out are of high standard.
Sutlej has a separate mélange development centre having machines from blow room to finishing with 768 spindles and knitting machines for quick preparation of samples in knitted form. During the year the company set up a PV development centre with 384 spindles and other machines for development of synthetic blended yarn. The company plans to add two evenness testers UT-5 of Uster with hairiness sensor of the latest version and technology, one each at its Kathua and Bhawanimandi units. It is also planning to install dye house laboratory equipments for testing and shade matching.
