Stäubli manufactures quality systems for the weaving industry and offers solutions adapted to the requirements of each user. Its machines and accessories for frame weaving applications, Jacquard machines and carpet systems come with a range of harnesses and weaving automation systems.

Stäubli has been developing and producing high quality systems for the weaving industry since 1892. The group provides innovative technological solutions that satisfy weaving mills with high expectations in terms of productivity, cost-efficiency, reliability and quality. The product range covers dobbies, cam motions, electronic Jacquard machines, harnesses, weaving preparation and automation equipment as well as carpet weaving machines.

With India emerging a hub for terry towel manufacturing, Staubli has been part of this growth story since many years. It is fair to say that all leading terry weavers in India use shedding or warp preparation technology from Stäubli. Terry cloth is widely used around the globe, thanks to its softness and moisture absorption properties. Some five per cent of the estimated 250-280 billion sq. metres of fabric woven annually fall into the category of terry cloth.

Indian textile companies have invested in the latest terry weaving technology and have built up strong supply chains. Raw materials and processing technology is close by and available. With a depreciating currency, it will further support export activity in this field of applications.

Terry towel manufacturing requires special shed forming technologies used on traditional weaving machines for terry, be it Rapier or Airjet weaving machines. Stäubli offers special dobbies or jacquard machines rendering possible to have active warp control in terry weaving. It also offers warp preparation technology for terry weaving, i.e., beam knotting or automatic drawing-in machines.

Jacquard machines are playing an important part in the weaving sector, thanks to their endless design possibilities. Stäubli is one of the worldwide leaders producing standard electronic Jacquard machines, but is the only manufacturer able to define and supply complete installations of machines and harnesses.

From the wide range of Stäubli Jacquard machines three models are particularly suitable for producing terry towels: the SX with 2688 hooks, LX 1602 with 6144 hooks, and LX 3202 electronic Jacquard machines. These machines have in common that their construction is extremely robust and the use of material is of uncompromising high-quality. Thus exceptional reliability and very long service life even at high speeds and in all formats is ensured for these machines.

The mechanical design of the LX 1602 and LX 3202 features a coaxial shaft system driven by complementary cams. This makes the machines particularly accurate and well suited for higher loads.

New Jacquard machine SX

The construction of the SX, with two cam driven parallel shafts, was especially developed for the use, with any standard application, for terry towels. The recently introduced SX V is based on the new type SX Jacquard machine, which is suitable for all types of weaving machines such as rapier, projectile and high speed air-jet. The SX V is equipped with 2688 hooks and can be adapted to any kind of new or existing velvet weaving machine for Velvet pile only, Velvet with mirror, Velvet “Epinglé”, loop and cut.

To provide maximum flexibility for weaving all types of terry or velvet fabrics the SX and SX V machine is equipped with the new 3-position modules M6.2 A QV, or 2-position modules M6.2 A QP.

Customers appreciate the compactness of the machines, 100 per cent maintenance-free kinematics, an easy accessibility to the machine, and the improved filtration, sealing and ventilation system. High performance and a perfectly balanced weaving system is achieved if the SX machine is combined with Stäubli’s new generation type G1000 harness, tailor-made and specially adapted for high-speed installations.

Independent drive

For the complete range of their Jacquard machines Stäubli is able to offer machines that are able to run without any mechanical link with the weaving machine. An independently driven Jacquard machine on a weaving machine opens new opportunities and has the following advantages:

 Reduction of mechanical parts on the Jacquard machine such as gear box and drive shaft. This means less energy consumption and less maintenance

 Possibility to adapt a Jacquard machine on an existing weaving machine not initially configured for Jacquard

 Possibility to run several Jacquard machines separately on one weaving machine (e.g., to increase the number of hooks by coupling two Jacquard machines)

 Possibility to easily adjust the angular offset between the Jacquard machine and the weaving machine in order to improve the weft insertions.
