Simta is indeed a brand to reckon with in the Indian spinning sector. The group companies manufacture a variety of products, including spindle tapes, overhead travelling cleaners (OHTCs), flocked clearer rollers, etc.
During his recent visit to Simta’s manufacturing plants in Coimbatore, The Textile Magazine Correspondent could very well realise how the company efficiently retains its market leadership by producing spinning spares of global standard both for domestic and international markets. The very style of company management is something special and distinctly different. For instance, the massive group company, Simta Mfg. Company, which produces synthetic spindle tapes, with its highly complex machines, has four flexible lines of operation with its monthly capacity to produce three million metres of spindle tapes. This spindle tape plant is equipped with highly sophisticated systems, including the one even from Toray Engineering of Japan.
Currently the company exports over 50 per cent of its tapes to different countries, including the advanced West. There is self-sufficiency to the extent of 90 per cent in the special-purpose machines required. Already certified to ISO 9001, the company is in the process of getting ISO 14000 required to meet the specific environment norms. Last year it achieved a turnover of Rs. 12 crores despite poor business trend, particularly in the first half. Nylon fabric required for spindle tape production is sourced from Cyber Textiles P. Ltd., a group company with all latest equipments located at Palladam Weaving Park.
With its cutting-edge technology in OHTCs, Simta Machinery Pvt. Ltd. offers both chain and belt-driven models. Its plant currently produces around 120 OHTCs per month with technical collaboration of Jacobi of Germany, a pioneer in the field. With a workforce of 70, the plant supplies OHTCs to different leading textile mills like Ramco Group, Vardhman, etc. For the current year, the target set is for Rs. 20 crores against Rs. 12 crores achieved last year.
Since fabrication is a vital process for OHTC making, the Simta Group set up a new venture, Sira Engineering Pvt. Ltd., in 2008. This ultra-modern facility is specially equipped with the well-known MADA laser cutting machine from Japan costing more than Rs. 3 crores. Apart from meeting the full requirements of Simta’s OHTC production, Sira Engineering also extends its service to other engineering concerns. With its widely accepted products and their extensive applications, the company is justifiably optimistic over its prospects.
Simta Clear Coats Pvt. Ltd., floated in 2000, is one of the flagships of the group, with its emergence as a leading player in flocked clearer rollers. The plant producing 2.5 lakh units of rollers per month is the key supplier to prominent OEMs such as LMW, KTTM, Toyota of Japan, Rieter of Switzerland and Marzoli of Italy. It is currently busy expanding by setting up additional facilities.
As is very well said, seeing is believing. A view of the advanced facilities provided in different divisions of the sprawling company complex would give an idea as to how much effort and energy has gone into the group’s sustained drive to provide a wide range of products to meet the entire customer requirements. The hardcore and dedicated sales team deserves special praise.
The Managing Director, Mr. S. Senthil Kumar, who is the real driving force behind the group’s astounding growth over the years, continues his efforts to remain a top global player with dominance over the products it specialises in.
