Coimbatore-based Shiva Texyarn has announced the launch of anti-viral fabric treated with HeiQ Viroblock NPJ03, a treatment that was proven to deactivate most viruses including coronavirus in the shortest possible time, an innovation from the Swiss textile innovation leader HeiQ Materials AG and co-distributed with Taiwanese specialty chemical major Jintex Corporation.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Carlo Centonze, CEO of HeiQ, mentioned: “HeiQ Viroblock is a special combination of our advanced silver and vesicle technology that has been proven effective against the human coronavirus 229E with over 99.99% reduction of virus. It is safe and non-toxic. A patent has been filed. We are pleased to launch this for the first time in India on PPE with Shiva Texyarn.”
Dr. Sundararaman K.S., Managing Director of Shiva Texyarn, speaking on the launch, stated: “We have been at the forefront of the PPE response in the country, with our Technical Textiles Division being amongst the earliest SITRA Qualified Suppliers of PPE fabric. We have complemented coverall manufacturing with a range of fabric masks with innovative protective systems and other components of the PPE system. The addition of HeiQ Viroblock to our manufacturing processes gives us another formidable technology in the race to provide high tech, comfortable PPE solutions”.
The company is currently in the process of getting various international certifications to target the global marketplace for anti-viral fabrics.
Profile of Dr. Sundararaman K.S., Managing Director, Shiva Texyarn:
Dr. K.S. Sundararaman is a well-known leader in the Indian textile industry based in Coimbatore. He did his undergraduate degree in Medicine from the Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, and a Masters in Business Administration from the Judge University of Management studies, Cambridge University. Dr. Sundararaman is currently the Managing Director of Shiva Texyarn Ltd., a vertically integrated textile company with interests in spinning, fabric production, processing, garmenting and technical textiles. Prior to this, he was the Executive Director of Bannari Amman Spinning Mills Ltd. Dr. Sundararaman was instrumental in setting up the technical textile units in these companies. Today the various divisions of the company produce a diverse range of unique and specialized products, including membrane-laminated fabrics, digital print canvas, chemical and biological protection suits, etc. Dr. Sundararaman has also been the Director of BIT, a premier engineering college in Tamil Nadu for more than ten years and is well versed with the higher education system in the country. He is also a Director / Trustee in several other organizations. He was the Chairman of the Confederation of Indian Industry (Coimbatore Zone) for 2013-14.
