The Punjab Government has signed a memorandum of understanding with
SEL Textile Ltd. for setting up a mega project for manufacturing denim
fabric and garments in Muktsar district at an investment of Rs. 1,485
crores. The project will come up on 350 acres of land at Sikh Wala
Road, Punjaba village in Lambi tehsil.
Speaking after signing the MoU, Mr. Anil Joshi, Punjab Minister for
Industry and Commerce, said the setting up of this unit will provide
direct and indirect employment to 10,000 and 50,000 persons
respectively, an official release said.
On the occasion, letter of intents to already approved projects of six
companies were also handed over by the Minister. These were Nectar
Life Science, Mohali district, project with an estimated cost of Rs.
200 crores; Vardhman Special Steel, Ludhiana (estimated cost Rs.
134.97 crores); Sportking, Bathinda district (estimated cost Rs. 303
crores); Supreme Tex Mart, Ludhiana (estimated cost Rs. 103.25
crores); Satluj Spintex, Mansa district (estimated cost Rs. 121
crores); and Sharmanji Textile, Ludhiana, at an estimated cost of Rs.
144.82 crores.
Mr. Joshi also said that industrialists in the State would now face no
difficulty in getting clearances as the Government will soon be
establishing the single window system wherein all the formalities for
setting up a new industrial unit would be given in one go.
