The Ludhiana-based SEL Group is an integrated textile conglomerate with a vision to build a sustainable, growth oriented and socially responsible corporate entity. Having its origin in 1969 in garment manufacturing, the group started its forward and backward integration in 2005 with the coming up of its first spinning unit at Ludhiana. Since the beginning of this integration, the group has achieved quantum growth across the textile value chain, right from spinning, weaving and processing to manufacture of terry towels and readymade garments. It will enter the denim segment soon.
Comparatively a new entrant in the terry towel segment, SEL is already counted amongst the top-ranking companies in the category. SEL’s range covers terry towels both in the existing and new fibres across all categories of solids, yarn dyed, dobby and jacquards with some special constructions and exclusive designs.
Embroideries appliqués are a part of surface ornamentation to give value addition to towels. India Gold Range, SEL’s specialty towel is made from long staple cotton which is remarkably soft and absorbent. Beach-friendly towels with special cool sensation are being made only by SEL at the moment, with special techniques like Zero Twist.
The group ventured into terry towel manufacturing in 2008 with a mere 30 looms. Within a short span, it set a benchmark in terry towel manufacturing by achieving capacity levels of 45 tonnes per day, which is now being further increased to 100 tonnes. With a strong integrated set-up in yarn manufacturing, state-of-the-art machines, fully equipped testing laboratories, totally automatic finishing section and dynamic team for product development, SEL’s towels are known for quality and comfort. SEL is the first company in south-east Asia to have soft dyeing machine from Sclavos Greece which give one of the finest pile orientations with improved hand feel, bulk and better shelf appeal to the towels.
The towels enjoy market across the globe, especially in the US, Europe, the UK and Australia. SEL’s presence is marked in major retail stores like Wal-Mart, Sears, Ikea, Avanti, London Luxary, Sainsbury, ASDA, Hayashi, Kitan, Target, Myer’s, Zeeman, to name a few. SEL has delivered good volumes matched with quality and variety in a very short period of time. Many terry towel players have achieved such volumes in a fairly long period of time. Good volumes have given SEL an opportunity to present variety in sizes, colours and designs to the buyers.
SEL is spreading its wings across the entire textile value chain. Its spinning unit having a capacity of nearly four lakh spindles located in Sehore district in Madhya Pradesh is the largest in India at a single location. SEL is also setting up a Greenfield Mega Integrated Textile Park at Village Punjava in district Muktsar of Punjab. This project is being set up with the state-of-the-art technology having capacities of about 200,000 spindles in ring spinning, 40 MMPA in denim fabric and 8 million pieces of denim garments p.a. This strategic move of diversifying into denim segment shall further increase the group’s presence in the finished product segment.
SEL’s focus is not only on meeting the customers’ requirements but exceeding them on a continuous basis. It is for this reason that the organization has a solid support from a large number of high end customers from across the globe in all its product segments. SEL’s products have found ready acceptance amongst the highly discerning customers in more than 50 countries, including most stringent markets like the US, Japan and Western Europe. The group believes that delivery of value for money to customers is the key to success and to achieve this, there is a continuous focus on quality improvement, development of new products, cost optimization and meeting delivery timelines.
