Savio Macchine Tessili S.p.A, Italy, considered an industry leader in technology and innovation in winding and twisting machines, was in the news recently for installing the world’s longest automatic winder with 100 spindle model – Eco PulsarS L – at Om Textiles, Coimbatore.
A team from The Textile Magazine visited the mill premises to take a closer look at the installation and got detailed inputs from Mr. D. Nithyanandam, Proprietor, Om Textiles.
The 24,000 spindle capacity unit was started in 2006. Om Textiles has been associated with Savio since 2014. Giving an overview of the preparatory process before the installation, Mr. Nithyanandam said: “Savio team sent the pre-installation requirements like civil, electrical, pneumatics, and once the machines arrived at the port, they sent their service personnel to check if the basic requirements are met. When the machines reached the mills, their team consisting of experienced engineers cross-checked everything and started installation”.
Eco Pulsars, with its sustainable eco-green advantage, represents the fifth generation of Savio winding machines after the iconic models Ras, Espero, Orion, and Polar. The innovative new features have removed the structural limitations, thus paving the way for the world’s longest magazine feeding winder with 100 spindles.
With breakthrough innovation, Eco Pulsars also offers an extra advantage to spinners with enhanced productivity up to 10% and saves energy up to 30%, thanks to the suction on demand system (SDS) and the controlled cut system (CCS).
Elaborating further on the technology behind the machine, Mr. Nithyanandam said: “Basically, in the earlier generation machines you had a common motor which drives the entire machine. Here what Savio has done is that each part of the machine, e.g., drums, has a small motor. So, now, as far as the length of the machine is concerned, there is no limitation. Secondly, in the earlier version of machines, the suction motor, which takes care of the waste, would run continuously, whereas in this particular machine, every single spindle has its own suction motor and it works only when the suction is required. So, we can expect about 30%+ energy savings. While it is still early days with the machine being installed in our factory only about a month ago, since we have been using Savio machines earlier also, we are positive about the latest machine also scoring high on the energy saving front.”
New unit planned
Going into details about the future plans of the company, Mr. Nithyanandam said: “We will be adding another unit of around 24,000 spindle capacity in 2017-18. Commercial production at the new unit should hopefully start by the first quarter of 2018-19. And we hope to continue our association with Savio there too.”
Giving his views on the after-sales technical support provided by Savio, Mr. Nithyanandam stated: “Right now, we deal with around three service providers. I would rate Savio the best among them in terms of after-sales technical services.”
Mr. Nithyanandam is positive about the continued growth of the textile industry. “Our outlook is very optimistic. So long as the population is growing, there is greater need for clothing. The only direction in which the industry can grow is upwards.”
