Started as a manufacturer of commodity yarns, the company has successfully shifted its focus and established itself as a manufacturer of specialized and higher value added yarns. SPFL is gradually increasing its production capacity in all areas in a phased manner according to its marketing strategy. The company has two manufacturing facilities in Silvassa with a capacity 11,900 TPA and a dyeing house at Vapi with a capacity of 3,200 TPA. With a capacity to produce 250 different varieties of polyester and nylon yarn, SPFL clocked a turnover of Rs. 297.7 crores in 2015-16.

In 2012, SPFL set up a 100 per cent subsidiary, SarlaFlex LLC. USA, in South Carolina with a capacity of 9900 TPA manufacturing partially oriented yarn (POY) and textured polyester yarn. The company is currently optimizing its US facility by increasing its current capacity utilisation from 30 per cent to 100 per cent, going forward.

SPFL is planning to expand the installed capacity of POY from the current 9,900 TPA to 18,150 TPA by 2019. The company also planning to set up manufacturing capability of fully drawn yarn with initial installed capacity of 1,980 TPA and gradually increase it to 3,960 TPA by 2019.

Nylon 66

SPFL commenced trial production of Nylon 66 yarn at Silvassa in 2013 on pilot basis. Nylon 66 is a high tenacity and lower shrinkage yarn product. Being a niche product on its own, the specialized product is used for making parachutes, shoes, seat belts and car airbags. It has also specialized sewing applications in automotive, shoes, leather, industrial filters and hoses.

SPFL is the only Indian company to manufacture Nylon 66 with an annual installed capacity of 450 TPA at Silvassa. It is now planning to further expand the Nylon 66 capacity from the current 1.5 TPD to 6 TPD with an incremental capex of Rs. 100 million.

SPFL is uniquely positioned to gain market share in both polyester and nylon fibres through its global business strategy and product offering. Investments are being made to manufacture new products in India and the US to cater to the growing demand.
