Raymond Ltd., India’s leading manufacturer and retailer of fabrics and garments, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Rajasthan Industries Department towards setting up of innovative Raymond tailoring centres in Jaipur and Jodhpur, with the support of the Rajasthan Skill & Livelihood Corporation.
Mr. Aniruddha P. Deshmukh, President – Textiles & Retail, Raymond Ltd., and Mr. Rajesh Yadav, Commissioner, Rajasthan Industries Department, signed the MoU in the presence of Mr. Sunil Arora, Additional Chief Secretary of the Rajasthan Industries Department.
Commenting on this association, Mr. Sunil Arora observed: “This is a unique opportunity that the Rajasthan Government wishes to offer the weaker sections of the society towards building a skill. This, we believe, is an integral part of our plans to empower the people of Rajasthan and help them lead a quality life. We are also exploring options with Raymond to offer employment to the students who pass out of the Tailoring Centre. It is commendable that leading companies like Raymond are coming forward to participate in developing the minorities and weaker sections of the society. The State Government is giving Raymond a built-up infrastructure to run this Tailoring Centre.”
Mr. Deshmukh said: “We are pleased to unveil our plans to launch the Raymond Tailoring Center in an illustrious State like Rajasthan. The Raymond Tailoring Center will help the tailoring community acquire professional skills, thus encouraging the youth of the State to find value in pursuing tailoring”.
India’s and Raymond’s first tailoring centre was launched in May last year at Patna in Bihar, and the response to the Centre has been overwhelming thus far. The success has also been encouraging, in that all the students of the first batch that passed have all been offered placements.
Mr. Ram Bhatnagar, Vice President – Emerging Businesses, Raymond Ltd., said: “Considering technological advancements in the sector, Raymond Tailoring Centre module includes training candidates on the latest modern machinery and use of best tailoring practices, all at no financial expense to students. Special focus shall be given to encourage women to pursue our programs through reservation for them. We are proud to have the support of the Government of Rajasthan for this unique and innovative initiative.”
To be set up in BaisGodown Industrial Area, Jaipur, and near the Rotary Circle, Jodhpur, over 6,000 sq.ft. of built-up area each, Raymond Tailoring Centers will impart tailoring skills to underprivileged youth and tailors. This is an ideal example of public-private partnership as Raymond will provide state-of-the-art machinery and trainers for the centers, while the infrastructure will be provided by the Industries Department and the Rajasthan State Livelihood Development Corporation.
The Raymond Tailoring Center would train over 500 students per year in various aspects of tailoring, including suit, shirt and trouser making, over the next five years.
