R. Ramakrishnan to head Dornier’s Indian operations

Lindauer DORNIER GmbH, a market leader in weaving systems for technical fabrics and film stretching lines, has two production facilities with about 1,000 employees in southern Germany. In order to retain its lead in the textile and plastics industries, about eight per cent of its annual turnover is spent on research and development. This, in addition to creative engineering work, thorough knowledge of technological context and customer proximity, contributes largely to the outstanding leadership of the family-owned company.

With nearly 5,000 new and second-hand weaving machines, both rapier and air-jet, DORNIER is very successful in India and has also emerged a market leader in the division of film stretching machines for polyester films.

In December 2000 the branch of Lindauer DORNIER GmbH in Mumbai was first opened as sales office (liaison office) for the Indian market by Mr. P.R. Patwardhan. Five years later DORNIER Machinery India Private Ltd. (InDO) was founded as a legally independent subsidiary. After Mr. Patwardhan’s retirement Mr. Nitin Bavkar took over responsibility in 2007 to expand the office, comprising a team of 10 persons at that time, to a functioning and profitable service and sales subsidiary. Now, InDO has developed into a well-established and strong partner for new and second-hand weaving as well as film stretching plants. Mr. Bavkar left the company after 14 years of service.

As from January 1, 2016, Mr. R. Ramakrishnan has taken over leadership of InDO with its 17 employees and sets the course for further growth on the Indian market.

Mr. Ramakrishnan, who studied electrical engineering, has worked for the subsidiary since its foundation. Thanks to his extensive professional experience, from being a service technician to head of customer support, he has acquired expert knowledge in weaving machines. In the complex world of weaving and special machines with constantly rising customer requirements, he has his special focus on finding satisfying solutions for DORNIER customers.

With a plant expansion last autumn to a surface of nearly 900 m² InDO has prepared its for the market growth. In the renovated building extension emphasis is on the special machine sector with clip overhaul and repair. This has a positive impact on customer service. From now on, the clip chains with 1,000 to 1,200 single clips do not have to be sent to Lindau anymore for overhaul. True to the company motto “Quality creates value”, the Indian DORNIER customers do benefit from the local all-round service.

The building provides additional space for the weaving machine sector. The main focus here is on making further developments in the DORNIER weaving machine system, comprising rapier and air-jet weaving machines, as well as special machines for processing of various technical yarns. The machine concepts are designed to the customers needs and requirements, thanks to its modular design system. The Training Center for weaving machine courses is also specially focused on customer demands.

The company’s latest technologies will be presented at the “InDO days 2016” event at this year’s India ITME to be held during December 3-8.
