Meera Industries is a leading company that offers world class products to national and international markets for around 15 years. It designs, develops and produces high-tech textile machinery which offers operational reliability, intelligent solutions, economic efficiency and quality.
Meera has shaped itself in the competitive world of textile twisting technology and machineries by gaining rich experience in the production of a wide range of items ranging from TFO twisting yarns to more innovative and user-friendly textile products. By putting together its core values, ethics and principles, along with its strategic plan, it has the overall objective of meeting and achieving the goals by facing up the challenges.
The company has also implemented quality analysing systems in every stage of production and processing. There are the CNC punching and bending line, CNC machining centres, injection moulding machines and systemized assembly to turn out quality products.
Some of the successful innovations that the company has come up with are the TPRS twisting machine, twisting or cabling machine, double deck spun twister, economical TFO for the weaving industry and the continuous bulking and heat setting machine for carpet and bath mat yarn. It has its overseas presence in countries such as Belgium, Croatia, Italy, Germany, Guatemala, Kenya, Peru, Bangladesh, Spain, South Africa, Thailand, Turkey and the US.
The new Meera avatar
Initially Meera used to produce the machines which were used only for textiles and yarns such as sarees, suits, shirts, etc. But for the past four to five years the company has been expanding and handling other textiles such as carpet yarn industrial fabrics, technical textiles, medical and sports yarns and a few yarns related to aerospace engineering. Hence it can be seen that there are certain high-tech requirements cropping up day by day in the overseas as well as domestic markets.
For instance, the manufacturing of carpet yarn was always done following a conventional method, but since the past 3-5 years an upgrade has been seen. Meera Industries has been handling such machines in the international market since 2007-08. It has also an in-house R&D centre which is recognised by the Department of Science and Industrial Research.
Commenting on the number of fibres that they have manufactured the twisting machines for, Mr. Dharmesh Desai, Chairman and Managing Director of Meera Industries, said that they do it for almost all the yarns, apart from normal polyester and cotton like Kevlar, Aramid, Carbon, Glass and even the stainless steel yarn. The company launched a new and unique machine called the Single Step S & Z machine which has been well accepted by customers from different fields like carpet industries for fishnet yarn manufacturing, tire cord industry, stitch yarn industries and many more since everybody wants to eliminate the three-step process and go for a single one. The machine helps customers save on 30-40% of the capital costs and around 50% of the operating costs. It also helps save on wastage and floor space. Another major benefit of the machine is the consistent quality of twisting with the twist levels being very uniform after secondary twisting, and no conventional methods can match up to this.
Mr. Desai also said that, in spite of similar machines being used in Gujarat and southern India, the reason this is different is mainly because of the single step feature. Moreover, their machines do not require a lot of aftersales service as they are completely automated and don’t really need oiling and greasing. There is hardly any mechanical maintenance required. Whatever electronic help is needed is handled by the in-house teams who can access the machines no matter where they are supplied.
The machines produced by the company are pretty long lasting, and the first one which was supplied 11 years back to the US is still functioning well. These machines don’t go through any mechanical obsolescence but rather technological obsolescence since they function for many years.
Exemplary leadership by Mr. Desai
Talking about the production capacity of the company, Mr. Desai observed that the company produced around 100 machines per annum and about 10-12 machines per month. Although the factories are not running at full capacity, there is scope for further expansion. The plan is to expand up to the full capacity by 2019 and introduce a new machine at ITMA in Barcelona next year.
Mr. Desai’s vision for next five years is to make it one of the best textile engineering companies in India and amongst the top three in the world in textile twisting with a revenue of Rs. 100 crores.
