From a modest entry in 1984, the Rs. 2,100-crore asset-based KPR Group has registered sustained growth over the years. Besides being India’s leading garment exporter, KPR is one of the largest vertically integrated textile players manufacturing and marketing readymade knitted garments, knitted fabrics and cotton yarn.
KPR has 10 state-of-the-art production facilities in Tamil Nadu with a cumulative capacity of 3,53,568 spindles to produce 90,000 MT of yarn per annum, a knitting facility to produce 27,000 MT of fabrics, the largest garmenting facility in India to produce 59 million pieces of readymade knitted apparels per annum with further expansion on the anvil, the industry-acclaimed fabric processing unit with a capacity of 9,000 MT per annum, and 66 wind mills with total power generation of 61.92 MW.
With strong fundamentals and unique key strengths, KPR is marching towards achieving further milestones in the years ahead. In 2014-15, the company registered a record consolidated revenue of Rs. 2,589 crores and net profit of Rs. 173 crores. Of the total turnover, exports constitute 33 per cent. In a challenging, environment, the main focus is on garments to significantly improve revenue.
The company is planning greenfield expansion with a capacity of 36 million garments per annum in the current year. The sustained support from the existing buyers and growing market demand are the driving force behind this expansion, which will result in KPR emerging as the largest garment producer in the country.
The brown field expansion at the Arasur garment facility by 10 million pieces per annum was completed as scheduled, and production commenced from June 24, 2014.
The company has announced that the greenfield garment expansion at Thekkalur has also been successfully completed, and it has commenced commercial production from March last. These enhanced the overall garment production capacity from 37 million to 59 million pieces per annum. The increased capacity is fully backed up by firm orders.
KPR is planning to add a further large greenfield manufacturing facility of 36 million garments per annum at an estimated cost of Rs. 175 crores. With this, the total annual garment capacity will go up to 95 million. The project is expected to be completed this financial year.
