The Tirupur knitwear industry too has grown considerably, as is evident in its export performance. In 2014-15 Tirupur’s exports touched Rs. 21,000 crores as against Rs. 18,000 crores of FY 2013-14, a growth of 15.5 per cent. The uptrend is expected to persist. Abundant availability of raw materials and skilled workforce has made lndia a preferred sourcing hub.
K.P.R. Mill Ltd. is in the garment trade for over three decades. Enthused by persistent demand in 2014-15, the company has added the brown field capacity of 10 million garments and a green field capacity of 12 million garments, taking the total capacity to 59 million garments per annum. With this new capacity the garment revenue increased by 34 per cent during the year.
The industry is all set to seize the opportunity provided by the rise of Asia as a strong trade block for textile and apparel exports. In order to tap the potential, K.P.R. is planning to add a further large greenfield manufacturing facility of 36 million garments per annum at an estimated cost of Rs. 175 crores. With this, the total capacity will become 95 million garments per annum, one of the largest in the country. The project is expected to be completed during this financial year.
Considering the impelling orders from the existing buyers and the encouraging response from the US market, the company Board has accorded its approval for the proposal.
