Jindal Worldwide Limited is one of the largest denim exporters and manufacturers that started functioning in India in the 1980s. Presently, the workspace of this esteemed organization is spread in several countries all over the world. The Jindal Group specializes in the manufacturing of premium quality denim, printed shirting, Dyed Yarn, and Bottom weights.
All that they manufacture and export shows the highest levels of passion, excellence, and innovation. Their designs are unique and contemporary, and the brand continually thrives to offer the best to its customers. This also means that Jindal believes in constant growth and innovation, which also makes them number one in the textile market at present.
The company is listed in both the BSE and the NSE. Moreover, all of the work takes place in and around Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The manufacturing facilities and infrastructure are top-notch, and the technology is world-class. Since, the organization does its spinning, weaving, and processing, the factories are all extremely well-equipped with the right types of machinery. Plus, there are laboratories for textile testing, and CAD systems too.
According to the Managing Director of the Jindal Worldwide Limited, Mr. Amit Agarwal, the organization started entering the denim sector around 2003-2004. Soon, the sales started rising from 2005 when their capacity was of around 10 million meters. At that time, Jindal was mostly catering to the domestic denim market with the hope of expanding into the foreign markets soon.
Here, Mr. Agarwal joined the organization in 1999 after finishing his MBA in the same year. Since then, he has been driving the growth of the business from just textiles to the more significant fashion industry, denim, and more. Under his supervision, Jindal Worldwide Limited has grown more every year. While the organization was already exporting textiles to the US and other countries by 1999-2000, the denim market was still unexplored. Later, when Mr. Agarwal decided to enter the fashion market, denim caught his interest.
From the first time when the company was breaking into the domestic denim market to the present scenario when the Jindal is the most significant player, it was a beautiful journey, says, Mr. Amit Agarwal. The organization is only expanding for the past decades to know that it is the largest denim manufacturer in India today. Plus, they supply the material globally to some of the best brands worldwide, along with many brands in India. As a result, the majority of the business comes from the domestic market with exports contributing around 10%-15% And they are expecting the export contribution to increase from the current levels.
Mr. Amit Agarwal’s plan for further expansion of Jindal Worldwide Limited
While Mr. Amit Agarwal believes that expansion is a constant aspect when it comes to the growth of the organization, there are indeed some concrete plans too. Since Jindal started manufacturing textile before 1980, and denim came in much later, Mr. Agarwal feels that the non-denim sector is significant also. So, the present expansion planning is going on regarding growth in the informal non-denim industry, which he believes is relatively vast.
The Jindal group wants to manufacture shirting as well as women’s and kid’s fashion textile too. Mr. Agarwal’s vision is to be the best in every segment and to become the single stop solution for the requirements of every customer.
On the other hand, Mr. Amit Agarwal is looking forward to sustaining the full utilization of the company’s resources, including their power plant. While it is undoubtedly a considerable investment, it helps its cost-effectiveness in the future. Since the market is incredibly cost-competitive, it is essential that Jindal Worldwide can keep up with the growth of both small and big players.
Mr. Agarwal’s vision is to take the company forward in such a way that it is capable of catering to all segments of the society. This includes the economy segment, the mid-premium, and the premium too. As a result, Jindal will be able to pick up margin during both forward and backward integration. Not only in the domestic market, but Mr. Amit Agarwal aims to become the best option for foreign brands too when it comes to any textile requirements. Presently, they are the largest manufacturers with maximum capacity. However, what is essential is to maintain that margin in the long-run.
According to Mr. Amit Agarwal, “the growth of Jindal Worldwide in the denim sector from 10 million metres per annum in 2005 to almost 160 million metres at present is nothing but a journey. So, a journey is never complete, and for the company also, the growth journey is ongoing, and we have continuous expansion plans that will never end.” When it comes to talking about personal achievements of Mr. Amit Agarwal in the company, he is too modest.
He says that the growth of the company under his supervision is the most significant achievement for him. Plus, five years down the line, he wants Jindal to be in a leadership position in the textile industry. He believes that their sustainable business strategies will help them to place India in the global lists very soon. Talking of sustainability, Mr. Agarwal feels that growth must not come unnaturally or overnight.
Mr. Amit Agarwal very beautifully says that “I would say, sometimes when you grow too fast you fall. So, it is essential that when you grow, your growth is sustainable, and you are able to put the best practices in the industry. So, this is what we try to do in this company. There is a lot of focus on our people, a lot of focus on processes that is where we believe that we consider us great as compared to the other companies.”
Apart from the non-denim sector and resource utilization, there are plans of stepping into the technical textile segment. Mr. Amit Agarwal says that it is a fascinating area just like any other conventional textiles. However, for now, plans are yet being finalised and everything is on the drawing board level only.
The company is talking to experts and analyzing the cope of growth for Jindal in the technical textile segment. While it is indeed a fruitful area, building a complete plan will still take some. Moreover, the government is now offering the right incentives to big players who want to enter the technical textile market. However, Mr. Agarwal now mainly wants to focus on what the company is presently doing keeping in mind all the expansion plans too.
Since Jindal believes in a growth journey and being capable of bringing new things for customers; technical textile will happen soon. Besides, Mr. Amit Agarwal likes to set foot into every unexplored area where there are new opportunities, but of course, with a full-proof plan.
Jindal Worldwide Limited’s fight against COVID-19, and an unexpected comeback
The COVID 19 scenario and the global lockdown has affected all industries worldwide, and Jindal is not an exception. Mr. Agarwal reveals that it was an extremely tough time for everyone when the government declared the pandemic. So, the sales structure was stagnant zero with practically no sales at all during the first quarter. By the second quarter, the factories began functioning again. However, only utilizing around 500%-600% of the total capacity was possible.
With the beginning of the third quarter of 2020, the capacity utilization rate went up from 40% to 80%. Finally, as we will enter the fourth or last quarter of the year, the capacity utilisation to be at over 85%-90% . After this trend of sales improvement, Mr. Agarwal believes that the comeback was much better than expected. He reveals that the earlier pandemic statistics made it very clear that nothing will be alright at least before the third quarter, but the comeback was a blessing, and it all happened naturally with a large effort put in across the organisation at all levels.
Not just a comeback, but the demand is good in both the domestic and international markets. This is an excellent sign for the Jindal Group and Mr. Amit Agarwal. On the other hand, Jindal Worldwide is focusing on becoming more eco-friendly too. According to Mr. Agarwal, every company needs to consider the impact of its growth on the environment.
According to Mr. Agarwal , Jindal is progressing well in their eco-friendly initiative too. Presently, their plan for carrying out at least half the production at zero discharge is working quite well. Soon, they want to become the largest eco-friendly denim producers in the market when the reusing capacity becomes around 90%-92% in India. Besides, the chemicals used in the production procedure of Jindal is of top-quality. For example, most chemicals are cocotex free and satisfy every mandatory International certification standard. Altogether, Jindal Worldwide Limited is now the largest denim manufacturer and exporter in the country with a considerable margin ahead of other top players in the textile industry. Moreover, their potential for expansion and growth keeps them at the top of the list of future market leaders too.
