‘Make in India’ is an initiative launched on September 25, 2014 by the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, to encourage national and international companies to manufacture their products in India. The initiative has turned India into a top destination globally for foreign direct investment.
India needs to create an effective environment to enable its heavy industrial enterprises to acquire and evolve futuristic and revolutionary technologies to catalyze manufacturing growth, compete with global players in the international market, and showcase high quality products manufactured in the country under the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
In order to deliver a state-of-the-art ‘Make in India’ product, one has to adopt the latest technologies and innovations, either through basic research or applied research.
To enhance the process of applied research, the Department of Heavy Industry (DHI), Ministry of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, Govt. of India has notified a niche funding scheme for enabling outright acquisition of technology focusing particularly on a few futuristic and revolutionary areas across prominent Capital Goods sectors under the 12th Five Year Plan.
The DHI, along with the Ministry of MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises), has established a funding scheme for the Enhancement of Global Competitiveness of Indian Capital Goods Sector, which is designed to support the industry to modernize technologies from current status to global level and beyond.
To ensure the availability of skilled manpower for the successful implementation of the abovementioned activities, the Govt. of India has launched a ‘Skill India Development Mission’ with a target to skill 40 crore persons by 2020.
The Govt. of India has also launched an employment scheme called ‘Stand up India Scheme’ (SUIS) to give away loans to those who are unemployed and want to be financially independent.
Considering all the initiatives of the Government of India for the development of the country, ITAMMA felt that the industry experts will play a vital role in the successful implementation of the aforementioned schemes.
Accordingly on October 30, 2015, ITAMMA launched an ITAMMA Expert Panel, setting a target to have about 400 textile technologists and engineers on the panel to support the entrepreneurs of the textile engineering industry in technological development and successful execution of the various schemes of the Govt. of India, in addition to individual projects.
The ITAMMA Expert Panel will consist of experts on metallurgy, automation mechanisms, heat treatment, surface finishing systems, oil, engineering, lubricants, lean technologies, company turnaround, 3D modeling, mechatronics, reverse engineering, 6 Sigma, and Theory of Constraints as well as textile technologists relating to sub-groups such as spinning, weaving, processing, technical textiles, and so on.
ITAMMA will display the profile of the technocrats on this panel in the ITAMMA magazine and website during various national and international events such as seminars and conferences, apart from also bringing out a special publication. The experts on the panel will also be regularly interacting through webinars and video conferences.
ITAMMA, through this short write-up, is placing an appeal to all the industry associations to share the names of their members who are in this field and wish to join this mission at absolutely no cost.
