Speaking exclusively to The Textile Magazine on the eve of the forthcoming Texfair 2017 to be held in Coimbatore, Mr. S. Senthil Kumar, Managing Director, stated that in 2016-17 Simta performed extremely well and the management was able to identify progressive potential for its product mix.
According to Mr. Senthil Kumar, the first quarter of 2017-18 had been quite encouraging while the subsequent quarter started off on a note of slowdown, which may be attributed to the GST system roll-out.
Mr. Senthil Kumar said: “There has been a very subjective signal from the OEMs and the growth prospects seem to be a bit tepid during the second quarter of this year. However, the moderately good rainfall this year could spell good times ahead.”
Asked whether the company is planning any new launches, he replied in the affirmative, saying: “Certainly yes. We have innovative products in the pipeline.”
In the same breath, he also mentioned that the company is already halfway through with its new ventures in the current financial year, besides capacity expansion.
Referring to the company’s foray into export markets, Mr. Senthil Kumar said: “We have indeed expanded our activities in South Africa and look forward to expanding in other potential areas.” Besides, the company has new projects coming through in South America and Indonesia.
Sharing his views on the current textile industry scenario, Mr. Senthil Kumar observed: “All said and done, it is not unusual for the textile industry to ride the turbulence for a certain span of time in the vicious circle. But if one identifies the cause of the turbulence, it becomes manageable.”
