The Indian textile industry has always lived up to its reputation. This ever-flourishing industry bloomed not only in the post-Industrialization era but has since the dawn of mankind. While textile industries and their production by their very nature are always going to dominate the market, it won’t be fair to state that efforts haven’t been made to further facilitate the industry growth.
The gradual introduction of machinery in a manual system of production was revolutionary at some point; however, now the only praiseworthy value addition to this industry is the introduction of the concept of textile parks. As the name suggests, these parks are equipped with a one-stop facilitating infrastructure for the prospective textile industries. They are envisaged to house world-class ecosystem for textile industries.
The Union Government has sponsored schemes under which only 61 parks are being sanctioned in the country. Out of these, the Hinganghat Integrated Textile Park (HITP) is a record-breaker. It is a project built across 32 acres of land in Hinganghat in Wardha district, with scope for further expansion of 75 acres and a jaw-dropping worth of Rs. 328 crores. Its prime location, the consequential easily available raw materials and the state-of-the-art planning have attracted a lot of investors. Ginning, spinning, technical textile and garmenting units are all brought under one roof in this park.
The Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) of HITP is a corporate body registered under the Companies Act 2013 consisting of a minimum 8 promoters, etc., responsible for the flawless functioning of the park. Around 50% of HITP’s promoters have a century worth of experience in the field. One of the biggest promoters of HITP is Gimatex Private Ltd.
The park has established factories for the spinning of yarn and weaving of fabrics, and has business links all over the country for marketing. The entrepreneurs have proposed to launch modern spinning and weaving units with the required backward linkages and forward integrations in business.
The Director of this ambitious project, Mr. Prashant Kumar Mohota, provides details about the inclusive factors in the park package. The park houses buildings for skill development, common storage, research and development centres, staff quarters, worker hostels, administration, logistics and delivery centres, etc. The other state-of-the-art infrastructure includes street lights, water supply from the Wana river, bore-well and rainwater harvesting, 8 MV electricity supply, roof top solar panels, storm water drainage, waste water treatment plant which recycles 90% of the water using its ZLD (Zero Liquid Discharge) system, hydrant pump systems, telecom and IT hubs, etc. This integrated set-up enables entrepreneurs to simply plug and play their machinery with zero clearance.
Textile parks have emerged as a novelty. However, there are similar parks in the other districts of Maharashtra. While futuristic facilities are common to all the sanctioned parks, what sets HITP apart from the rest are the following unique selling points:
- Abundant and easier availability of resources like labor and raw materials in the Wardha district as opposed to others owing to its location which is not clustered with other similar establishments.
- Another advantage of the park location is that all the amenities like roads, street lights, etc., come as a complete package. This leads to a lot of savings in time and money.
- The park also happens to fall under Sector D which receives more industrial promotion subsidy support than any other sector in Maharashtra. The PSI leads to returns of SGST up to 90%.
- Owing to its 120 years of market existence, the parent firm provides more all-round support from its experience and expertise than any of its other competitors.
Established with the objective of catering to the needs of entrepreneurs and companies, HITP aspires to be a platform of facilitation and exposure for those in the industry. With the ‘everything under one roof’ approach, the park aims to minimize the cost and maximize the quality for the smaller brands with huge potential. Almost 50% of the land has already been leased.
HITP was sanctioned in March 2017. Even with the hiccup caused by GST and demonetization, it’s barely drifted off schedule and will be complete in 2021. HITP is ambitious to create an ecosystem where once the raw cotton is brought in by the farmer; it should only be brought out as a finished garment.
By 2024, Mr. Prashant Kumar Mohota aspires to achieve a target of Rs. 1,000-crore turnover and employing 2,000 workers. With a legacy of a 120 years, immense support from the Government and state-of-the-art textile ecosystem generation, HITP is here to not only stay but also thrive!
