Growth through well-designed mergers and acquisitions

The Fong’s Industries Group was founded in 1963. Since inception, the Group has focused on its principal business of design, manufacture and sale of dyeing and finishing machinery with now a workforce approximately of 4,300 colleagues serving over 5,700 customers worldwide. Its holding company, Fong’s Industries Co. Ltd., was the first of its kind in the industry to be listed on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Ltd. in 1990.

Fong’s National Engineering Co. Ltd. and Fong’s National Engineering (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd. are the Group’s flagship companies, specializing in the design, manufacture and sale of dyeing and finishing machinery . Over the past four decades, Fong’s National has successfully built its brand name to become a world leading dyeing and finishing machinery supplier.

In 1998, Fong’s National Engineering Co. Ltd. started the successful technology licensing partnership with R F Systems Srl of Italy for the manufacturing and marketing of radio frequency dryers for package yarn for the Asian markets. The radio frequency dryer designed by R F Systems Srl is now one of the leading radio brands in China and Asia.

By 1999, Fong’s Industries Group joined forces with A. Monforts Textilmaschinen GmbH & Co. KG to establish Monforts Fong’s Textile Machinery Co. Ltd.. Through its subsidiary Monforts Fong’s Textile Machinery (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd., the company is specializing in assembling, manufacture and sale of continuous dyeing ranges, stenters, shrinking ranges and dryers for mainland China and South-East Asian countries like Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines, as well as peripheral zones such as Mongolia, North and South Korea, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Taiwan.

Drawing on the German partner’s advanced technology and engineering skills and taking advantage of Fong’s extensive distribution network and manufacturing know-how in China, the joint venture has experienced tremendous business growth and success since its inception.

In 2002, the group established XORELLA Hong Kong Ltd. to acquire XORELLA AG, which is a leader in the design and application of yarn conditioning. This move marked a further step towards diversification and underlined the group’s strategy for providing a “one-stop shop” product portfolio to customers with textile machinery to handle processes ranging from yarn conditioning to dyeing and finishing.

In August 2004, THEN Maschinen GmbH was established to continue the manufacturing and operation of the “THEN-AIRFLOW” products for the global textile market from the former THEN Maschinen-und Apparatebau GmbH. Through this strategic investment, the group is able to further advance its strategy of providing the market with greater variety of technology and machinery for customers worldwide.

In April 2006, the group established Goller Textilmaschinen GmbH located in Schwarzenbach/Saale, Germany, following the restructuring of the former GTM Goller Textilmaschinen GmbH. This investment ensures that the company will continue to produce and supply the renowned Goller’s textile wet finishing machinery and auxiliaries in the worldwide market and help to strengthen the overall portfolio of the group by providing customers a “one-stop shop service” with a wide range of premium machinery.

In 2007, the group founded Fong’s Water Technology Co. Ltd. and Fong’s Water Technology and Conservation Equipment (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd. to provide the equipment of water treatment and reuse based on integrated advanced technologies in a safe, reliable, cost-effective and environmental-friendly manner. The set-up of Fong’s Water Technology marks a new era of challenge and opportunity for the group and helps to further broaden its overall product portfolio with the aim of providing a total solution to customers to achieve the ecological and economic benefits in their dye houses.

In 2010 the former THEN Maschinen GmbH was officially renamed as FONG’S EUROPE GmbH in June. In the following months, FONG’S EUROPE GmbH will acquire all assets of Goller Textilmaschinen GmbH. After the merger and acquisition, FONG’S EUROPE GmbH will become the sole operating company of the Fong’s Group in Germany, its headquarters and principal production site in Schwäbisch Hall as well as a second production site in Schwarzenbach. It will promote all group brands such as Fong’s, THEN and Goller.

In 2012, Fong’s announced that it has acquired a 100 per cent stake in A. Monforts Textilmaschinen GmbH & Co. KG from Germany-based L. Possehl Co. & mbH. Monforts is based in the western German city of Mönchengladbach. The acquisition includes Monforts’ Austrian subsidiary Montex-Maschinenfabrik Ges.m.b.H. with its machine production site in St. Stefan. The 50 per cent stake in Monforts Fong’s Textile Machinery Co. Ltd. (Monfongs), the jointly controlled entity between Fong’s and Monforts Group, is also part of the transaction.

In 1988, to match its diversification strategy, the group set up Fong’s Steels Supplies Co. Ltd., and in 1995, it founded Tycon Alloy Industries (Hong Kong) Co. Ltd., and Tycon Alloy Industries (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd.

Fong’s Steels has established a strong distribution network for sale of stainless steel products in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau. It also has provided synergy for the group’s manufacturing business by supplying the full range of reliable raw materials.

Tycon specialises in the production of metal casting and provides related technical services to the group and to customers all over the world.

Research and development effort is the indispensable factor for maintaining the group’s competitiveness and long-term development. At present, there are more than 140 engineers and technical specialists working in Research and Development. This group of skilled people collaborates closely on technological research projects with top universities in China, Hong Kong and Europe in order to constantly improve design efficiency and product quality.
