Speaking to The Textile Magazine, Mr. B. Balakrishnan, Managing Director, Elgi Ultra Industries Ltd., said: “We are pioneers in the manufacture of synthetic sandwich spindle tapes and remain as a trend-setter in the textile industry since the time of conversion of the conventional cotton tapes to synthetic tapes. We offer spindle tapes, transmission & conveyor belts, loom components and recently foundation cloth for card clothing industry. Since inception, our main focus was on power savings. All our new products save power. Our sandwich tapes are now made of polyurethane (GX) which saves up to six per cent power when compared to conventional tapes. As for belts, we have come out with flexible polyester belts which have the capacity to save a significant amount of energy in the textile industry when it completely replaces all the polyamide type belts.”
Elgi Ultra, based on its strength in various fields and with its engineers specialising in textiles, rubber and polymer, is coming out with several combination products for different industries. These products are mostly flexible composites, rubber and high tenacity fabrics.
The company has also engineered high-end roller coverings, which were previously imported from Switzerland or Germany. “We fully realise what our customer requires. We intend producing some industrial textiles also and are trying to make some dipped fabrics with low shrinkage on warp and weft, so that the diaphragms made out of it are dimensionally perfect”, adds Mr. Balakrishnan.
Boasting of having a strong customer base with OEMs like LMW and KTTM and all leading Indian textile companies, including Vardhman, Trident, Welspun, SEL, Super, Premier and Nahar Spinning Mills in India, the company now focuses on its overseas business. China has been a huge market for Elgi’s products, followed by Pakistan, Bangladesh, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Europe and Thailand.
