German textile machinery manufacturers presented their latest solutions on the occasion of the VDMA conference on “German Technology meets Indonesian Textile” held in Jakarta on April 16 and 17. More than 300 high-ranking technical experts and decision makers from the Indonesian textile industry attended the technology lectures, the B2B meetings and a panel discussion on industrial textiles, sustainability and life-cycle-costs. All important stakeholders of the textile industry such as Indorama, Ateja Tritunggal, Sri Rejeki Isman, Sinar Continental and Indah Jaya attended it with their technical management staff.

The German experts presented practice-oriented technology topics related to spinning, knitting, warp-knitting, braiding, weaving, nonwoven, finishing, dyeing machinery, automation solutions, textile testing and measurement and control equipment. The major application areas covered were garments, home textiles as well as innovative industrial applications (technical textiles). A trendbook on industrial / technical textiles was handed over to Mr. Ramon Bangun, Director of Multifarious and Textile Industry within the Ministry of Industry, as well as to the moderators Dr. Mohamad Widodo and Mr. Gunawan from the School of Textile Technology in Bandung.

Large parts of the Indonesian textile industry are now encouraged to modernize and to invest in more efficient and sustainable textile technology.

Boris Abadjieff from VDMA emphasized in his opening address: “In order to secure competitiveness and to expand textile business in the future, the use of modern machinery is a precondition”.

Therefore, VDMA welcomed the announcement of Mr. Ramon at the conference dinner: “We are still growing and we’re striving toward implementing a new development paradigm in accordance with energy efficient and environmentally friendly technology. There is no other choice than to buy German or European textile machinery.”

Important “model companies” such as ATEJA TRITUNGGAL too appreciated the event. Mr. Agus S. Tjandra, President Director, stated: “In our company most machines are from Germany. It is just a question of time when automation solutions and other high-tech machines from Germany will be used on an even larger scale in Indonesia. The VDMA conference is very informative to upgrade on the latest technology. As sustainability is very important and affects all of us, we appreciate the Blue Competence initiative of VDMA.”

According to a visitor analysis every third visitor (33 per cent) came from Bandung, followed by 31 per cent from the metropolitan region Jabotabek, 17 per cent from Purwakuta and the remaining 19 per cent from other parts of Indonesia.

Excellent business environment

In 2012, German textile machinery exports to Indonesia increased by 132 per cent to 120 million EUR. Indonesia has become the fifth important market for Germany after China, Turkey, India and the US. The German companies represented in Jakarta recommended themselves as reliable and professional partners to support the textile industry in terms of modernization, higher value-added textiles and new textile applications.

In this context, the Indonesian textile manufacturers are invited to use the technical centres of German textile machinery companies more than in the past to test and develop new textile applications right up to marketability.
