The Firebird Institute of Research in Management of Coimbatore, celebrated its First Foundation Day on January 26 last. The institute is a venture of Dr. S.V.K. Educational Charities, which has been established with a vision of creating the right kind of human resources for the contemporary business and industry. Several prominent personalities from Coimbatore attended the glittering function, which saw Prof. Sanjay Bakshi, Angel Investor & Managing Partner, ValueQuest LLP, as the Chief Guest on the occasion, enthrall the audience with his presentation on evaluating company management.
Firebird is part of the Shiva Texyarn / Bannari Amman Spinning Mills Group, with interests in spinning, garments, technical textiles, power generation, healthcare, automobile dealerships and food products, registering a turnover in excess of Rs. 1,400 crores, with a workforce of over 1,800 persons.
Leadership development programmes
According to Dr. S.K. Sundararaman, Managing Trustee of Firebird, the institute was set up with the vision of creating the right kind of human resources for today’s new age economy. Towards realizing this vision, Firebird has taken up a two-dimensional mission of empowering the in-service executives through leadership development programmes and creating highly talented young management graduates who are trained to become industry-ready so that they can enter the highly competitive business world with ease and grace.
Further elaborating the key objectives of the institute, Dr. Sundararaman, Executive Director of Shiva Texyarn Ltd., as well as the Vice-Chairman of the India Technical Textile Association (ITTA), stated the executive development programmes of the institute have been designed by industry experts and are facilitated by industry veterans who are personally experienced in what they articulate.
‘Leadership Exploration and Awakening Programme (LEAP) is one of the flagship programmes of the institute that also offers tailor-made training progarmmes to cater to the growing needs of specific industries. Over 2,500 participants have already completed their training at the institute in the past one year.
The state-of-the-art centre, located about 10 km away from the city, boasts of world-class facilities such as executive training rooms, a 400-seater seminar hall, multimedia and Wi-Fi connectivity, well equipped library, amphitheater, air-conditioned twin-sharing accommodation, multi-cuisine dining, living spaces, Yoga-Mediation centre, etc.
The academic structure of Firebird’s MBA programme is designed by its Board of Studies comprising top-level business executives, and academicians from IIMs, EDII and IIT-Madras. The MBA programme is expected to commence in July next.
