The National Energy Conservation Award recognizes innovation and achievements in energy conservation by industries, buildings, railways, State-designated agencies, aviation, manufacturers of BEE star labelled appliances and municipalities, and raises awareness about the role played by energy in India’s response to global warming through energy savings. The Awards were given away for the first time on December 14, 1991, which was celebrated as the National Energy conservation Day throughout the country.
The participation level from the industrial and commercial units has been quite encouraging, from 123 in 1999 to 1010 in 2014.
The Award Committee this year selected 41 units for the first prize, 37 units for the second prize and 44 units for Certificate of Merit in recognition of their demonstrated commitment to energy conservation and efficiency.
“In the textile sector Aarti International Ltd. has been awarded the second prize by the Ministry of Power (Bureau of Energy Efficiency) for its contribution to energy conservation. The Award was presented by Mr. Piyush Goyal, Minister of State (I/C) for Power, Coal and New & Renewable Energy, to Mr. Rajeev Mittal, Director, Aarti International.”
The progressive industrial units and other establishments have already realized the cost effectiveness of energy conservation measures, and by way of honoring their efforts on the National Energy Conservation Day, gives a message to thousands of other industrial units and establishments which may have not yet fully utilized their cost-effective potential through energy conservation.
