ITMA 2011
, a big success
Even though the global economy
is not giving any hope for a sustaina-
ble industrial growth and the Indian
spinning industry is going through a
very tough time, one could still say
the exhibition was really successful.
We have ITMA Asia in Shanghai
and India-ITME next year, but I am
sure ITMA-Europe is still the place
to be.
At ITME 2011 there were 1,350
exhibitors from 45 countries and
around 125 exhibitors from India.
Apart from that, many Indian com-
panies were exhibiting their prod-
ucts through their JV partners. Out
of 45 countries most of the space
was covered by Italian companies
(322), followed by Germany (220)
and Switzerland. There was also
strong presence of Turkish, Japa-
nese and Chinese exhibitors, apart
from participants from India.
The offcial claim was that there
were around 100,000 visitors from
138 countries. Most of them were
from Italy (9%), followed by Spain,
India, Germany and Turkey. Also
Brazil and Iran were ranked among
the top ten. I doubt very much about
the numbers.
According to the organizing com-
mittee, the exhibitors were satisfed
taking into account the ongoing glo-
bal economic diffculties. Many of
them reported signifcant enquires
By N. Subramaniam, Managing Director, Habasit Iakoka Private Ltd.
When the taxi dropped
me at a hotel very near to
La-Rambla, the entire Bar-
celona city was in a fes-
tive mood. In the evenings
there were carnivals for
the week-end and big pre-
cession with bands playing
loud music. People, includ-
ing the tourists, were
dancing on the streets
with a lot of fanfare. It
was really a prefect time
for ITMA 2011.
