tomers. Environmentally friendly
production technology in line with
existing environmental and qual-
ity guidelines is another part of the
company’s philosophy.
Following the company guideline
“A healthy life in a well-balanced
environment”, nearly all items from
the product range zips, hook-and-
loop closures and cord stoppers
comply with the strict human ecol-
ogy requirements of OEKO-TEX
Standard 100 in product class I for
babies and toddlers. That quality
has the highest priority at YKK is
also confirmed by the fact that the
company’s quality assurance is one
of the strictest in the industry.
YKK is also very conscious of
always carrying out its business
activities in balance with the envi-
ronment. That is why it supports all
stages of an environmental protec-
tion policy – from development to
production, for disposal as well as
for recycling.
YKK Deutschland GmbH is in-
deed certified in line with the envi-
ronment management system DIN
EN ISO 14001 and the European
main production sites as well as
some of the main global production
sites are certified in line with the
quality management standard DIN
EN ISO 9000.
An environmental protection
charter was already established
within the YKK Group of Compa-
nies in 1994, formulating guidelines
and company targets for business
activities in balance with the en-
vironment. Annual environmental
protection reports are created for all
business units to document success-
es and developments of the indi-
vidual measures for environmental
protection.
The environmental charter from
1994, for example, states the reduc-
tion of CO2 emissions by 19 per
cent by 2010 as a mid-term target.
The actual result of now 30 per
cent reduction of CO2 emissions
through efficient energy manage-
ment can certainly be seen as a
great success with regard to sustain-
ability.

YKK establishes strong business in India
YKK India Private Ltd. was incorporated in September 1995 after the parent company, YKK Corporation of
Japan, received permission from the Government of India to set up a wholly-owned subsidiary for the manufacture
of metallic and non-metallic zippers.
The factory, located in Rewari district of Haryana, started production in March 1997 of a range of popular zip-
pers such as No.3 & 5 polyester coil, No.3 & 5 Vislon and No.3 & 5 metal zippers. Subsequently the range was
expanded with the addition of No.2 & 3 invisible coil zippers.
Metal zippers are produced in aluminium, golden brass, antique brass and antique silver finishes. Production of
No.7 metal zippers has also started.
YKK India follows the same product and quality specifications as YKK Japan. Its products are anti-nickel (nickel
free) and Kensin (needle detector compatible) by default, except when nickel-plated slider itself is specified by the
buyer. With the completion of the third phase expansion in 2005, the production capacities of most of the items in
the range have been doubled. The fourth phase expansion was successfully commissioned in March 2009.
YKK India caters to the large and spread out Indian market of garment, footwear and luggage exporters, as well
as manufacturers of domestic brands and tailors through its network of five branches and about 40 dealers in 24 cit-
ies across India.
