Mott MacDonald appointed design engineer
for Nakoda polyester facility expansion
corporate
Nakoda is one of the largest manufacturers of poly-
ester yarn and has been processing fully drawn yarn,
partially-oriented yarn (POY) and textured yarn for a
number of years. The INR 2340 million investment will
see Nakoda manufacture additional specialty products,
allowing it to produce the entire range of polyester yarns
and ensuring an increase in spinning capacity from
90,000 tonnes to 140,000 tonnes a year for the domestic
and international markets.
Mott MacDonald is providing detailed design engi-
neering services for the plant expansion, including ar-
chitecture, civil and structural, mechanical and electri-
cal, plumbing, process and instrumentation aspects. The
design includes heat recovery systems from gas turbine
exhausts which will run vapour absorption machines for
air-conditioning. There will also be substantial energy
saving for using direct melt transfer from continuous
polymerisation (CP) to POY spinning facility.
Ghanshyam Shah, Mott MacDonald’s project direc-
tor, said: “Demand for yarn has been growing at a rate
of 8-9% annually. With a shortage of yarn procession
and weaving facilities, a number of textile parks are be-
ing set up in Gujarat. Surat in south Gujarat produces
around 60% of the country’s total synthetic yarn, and
Nakoda has emerged as a key manufacturer and trader
of POY, polyester textured yarn and polyester filament
yarn. We are delighted to have been appointed by Nako-
da to help them with their expansion programme. We’ve
also supported them during the development of their re-
cently completed new 400 tonne per day CP plant”.
Mott MacDonald is a global management, engi-
neering and development consultancy with more than
14,000 staff and £1 billion revenue and operate in 140
countries both for the public and private sectors. For six
consecutive years the employee-owned company has
