An exclusive interview with Mr. Sumanth Ramamurthi, Managing Director, Sara Elgi
Elgi Electric and Industries Ltd. (EEIL) of the Sara Elgi Group continues to be a market leader in overhead travelling cleaners (OHTCs) despite tough market competition. Of special significance is that the company has also emerged the No.1 player in yarn conditioning system. In an exclusive interview to The Textile Magazine, Mr. Sumanth Ramamurthi, Director of the company, and Managing Director, Sara Elgi, said that after making its mark as a leading manufacturer of OHTCs and yarn conditioning system, Elgi Electric has now started focusing on new products, including bobbin transport system (BTS) and cone packing machine. Having undergone vigorous trials, these products are now ready for marketing among textile mills all over the country. Considering the widespread power shortage in the country, the group has also taken special initiatives to introduce new products oriented towards saving more power.
Asked about the company prospects, Mr. Sumanth pointed struck a note of extreme optimism and said that the Textile Division of the company alone is expected to achieve a turnover of Rs. 100 crores by 2012.
Speciality engineering products
EEIL keeps developing and marketing varied speciality engineering products. Its flexible manufacturing and process innovations benchmark with market leaders. The company focus is on core competency and auxiliary machinery for textile industries. The product range covers OHTCs, yarn conditioning systems upto 1,500 kg, bobbin transport system, metal & spark diversion systems, and cone packing machines.
OHTCs have applications in areas like link coners, weaving, soft packing winders, open-end machines, warping machines, rapier & air jet looms, and jacquard looms. Special applications include cleaning the alleys and hank-to-cone winders.
The company has in-house facilities for manufacture of total products. It is already a leading supplier of OHTCs to major OEMs. The plant which has full-fledged machineries, tools and tackles is equipped with advanced testing facilities. Its skilled workers have vast experience, and the machine operators are thoroughly trained.
