Closing their value chain by including garmenting into their integrated process and venturing into lucrative avenues such as manmade fibres and technical textiles is something the company envisions doing over the next 5-10 years.
In 1981, Diamond Textile Mills began with a singular dream – to take advantage of the booming textile industry in Ahmedabad and engage in dynamic growth. Forty years of perseverance in this field led to the company growing into one of the most prominent integrated textile players in the state. They currently own as many as three units catering to spinning, weaving, processing, and embroidery as well. With a strong focus on Gujarat cotton, they own around 40,000 spindles, as well as over 100 looms which cater to customer required fabrics that are later processed. The company has successfully covered an entire value chain.
According to the company’s Managing Director Dhruv Patel, “While the spinning and processing mills in our country number in the thousands, there are very few integrated mills that meet a certain standard. As an integrated operation, Diamond Textile Mills provides a one-stop solution to the textile related needs of every brand that comes their way. The quality of raw materials used, especially cotton, is usually of varying quality in non-integrated mills, a problem which is non-existent with Diamond Textile Mills.” The mill can boasts of raw material of consistent quality due to their entire value chain being strategically planned beforehand, leading to a large enough stock of raw material and allowing them to meet the required standards of efficiency.
Building a Solid Reputation
Achieving customer satisfaction is one of their topmost priorities, having cultivated excellent long-term business relations with various brands since their inception. Furthermore, the entire organisation is one that relentlessly strives towards innovation and excellence. The careful attention paid to meeting the varied demands as per prevailing market trends and their goal-oriented approach has distinguished Diamond Textile Mills from other integrated mills in the country and has earned them the reputation of being the one of the finest in the textile industry. Thus, their unique selling points include innovation and consistent quality, efficient operations, and complete customer orientation.
Dealing with the Pandemic
The pandemic was the source of a fair share of adversities for the company and they were forced to completely shut down their operations for up to four months. Despite various challenges, the company attempted to mitigate the suffering of their employees and labour force by communicating with them and addressing their needs. To their workforce, comprising 1,500 labourers, they provided food and all manners of assistance, thereby increasing their confidence in the company and leading to an enthusiastic return of their workforce once the pandemic situation began resolving itself.
However, the company’s growth was shaky at this point with even the best laid plans being thrown into disarray. Now that the pandemic has been dealt with and normalcy is on the return, Patel remains highly optimistic about the company’s growth over the next 10 years. He strongly believes that success belongs to those that use the potential of the Indian textile industry to their advantage over the course of the upcoming decade. A company’s survival in these times is dictated by how well it is able to adapt to the requirements of the industry and deliver on that front. Diamond Textile Mills has rightly identified that the present generation, who will make up a significant portion of their consumer base over the next decade, desires fast fashion and use-and-throw products, which will in turn spell success for those companies that can rise to this booming demand.
Path of Progress
Closing their value chain by including garmenting into their integrated process and venturing into lucrative avenues such as manmade fibres and technical textiles is something the company envisions doing over the next 5-10 years. One of the bedrocks behind the company’s excellent performance is the quality textile machinery they invested in over a decade ago. A long-standing principle at Diamond Textile Mills is the preference given to Indian textile machine manufacturers that have proved themselves capable instead of looking to import quality machinery from other countries. Indeed, their 2010 partnership with Rabatex Industries to obtain sectional warping machines, material handling machines and reed cleaning machines has proven to be more than fruitful.
With constant upgrades and innovative changes made to their technology, Rabatex Industries offered to sell Diamond Textile Mills a fully automatic sectional warping machine, material handling and reed cleaning machines after understanding what the company’s vision was. The machines led to a dramatic increase in efficiency and product quality, while being incredibly cost-effective. Rabatex Industries’ top-of-the-line machinery, customer prioritisation and excellent after-care service has fostered an open and cooperative relationship between the two companies. Patel regards the investment made into backward integration as their best decision by far.
Considering the government’s textile policies in 2011, the development of their integrated mills, including their spinning unit, proved to be a boon for achieving the company’s long-term vision. With an esteemed clientele base from across the globe, the company believes in creating strong business relationships that are based on mutual trust and motive to succeed. Right from their inception in 1981, they have steadfastly dedicated 40 years to the textile industry. Their constant aim is to explore more, learn more and be more. As they move upwards and onwards, their sole aspiration remains to build new business relations and explore new opportunities.
