Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) held its 64th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 29th September 2022, through video conferencing. Rajkumar, Chairman, CITI urged the industry captains to work hard to achieve the target of having market size of US$ 350 billion, including US$ 100 billion exports by 2025-26 set by the Hon’ble Union Minister of Textiles for the T&A Industry. He stated that the Government of India has done a lot, on its part, and now it’s for the industry captains to take full advantage of the ecosystem and achieve new goals and attain Atmanirbharta in the textile sector!
Rajkumar welcomed the launch of The National Logistic Policy 2022. He said the poor infrastructure has always been a major bottleneck in the success of Indian businesses. The industry stakeholders during their consultations with the Government at various forums had been regularly pointing out this weakness to the Government.
Now with the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan and the National Logistic Policy 2022 in place, it will help improving the logistics efficiency and substantially reduce the logistics costs to enable the textile industry to attain cost competitiveness in the international market.
Following the 64th AGM, the newly Reconstituted Committee of CITI unanimously reelected T Rajkumar as Chairman, CITI, Rakesh Mehra as Deputy Chairman, CITI and Ashwin Chandran as Vice Chairman, CITI for the year 2022-23.

T. Rajkumar, Chairman, Sri Mahasakthi Mills Limited, Kerala and Foundation One Infrastructures Pvt Ltd, Tamil Nadu, has been re-elected as Chairman of CITI. He is the Chairman of the Textile Sector Skill Council (TSC). He is the Director in National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). He is the Vice Chairman of Permanent Committee on Textiles of Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC) of International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC).
He is the Former Chairman of The Southern India Mills’ Association and The SIMA Cotton Development Research Association (SIMA CDRA). He is an Independent Director in Coimbatore Smart City Limited. T. Rajkumar has done his Graduation from PSG College of Arts and Science and Masters in the Business Administration from the PSG College of Technology.
T. Rajkumar is a Member of the Governing Council of The Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council (TEXPROCIL), The South India Textile Research Associ ation (SITRA and CII National Committee on Textiles and Apparels. He is a Member of the Academic Council of PSG College of Arts and Science and Board of Studies of Bharathiyar University and PSG Institute of Management. He is a Member of the Board of Governors of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International School of Textiles & Management (SVPISTM), Coimbatore and Governing Council of NGM College of Arts and Science and PPG College of Technology. He has widely travelled overseas in delegations pertaining to Textile Industry and has attended lots of conference.
Rakesh Mehra, Chairman, M/s. Banswara Syntex Ltd., Mumbai has been re-elected as Deputy Chairman of CITI. Since 2018, Rakesh Mehra is the President of Indian Spinners Association (ISA), Mumbai an Association of MMF Yarn Spinners of the country. He is the Former Chairman of The Synthetic & Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council (SRTEPC). With his guidance and support CITI was instrumental in removing the ADD on Polyester Staple Fibre (PSF) & Viscose Staple Fibre (VSF), rationalization of GST rates and many other policy initiatives benefitting the MMF Textile Value Chain.
Ashwin Chandran, Chairman and Managing Director of M/s. Precot Meridien Limited, has been re-elected as the Vice Chairman of CITI. having textile units in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Ashwin Chandran, a B.Sc., (Hons) Graduate in Textile Technology, UMIST, UK and Post-Graduate (MBA) from University of Illinois, USA, is a Member of Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council (TEXPROCIL), Mumbai. Ashwin Chandran held the position of the Chairman of The Southern India Mills’ Association, Coimbatore for two years during 2019-2021.
