Chemin Enviro Systems, a Tamil Nadu-based company specializing in wastewater treatment and sustainable water management solutions, has recently launched its innovative Mechanical Vapour Recompression (MVR) technology for treating industrial wastewater. After rigorous trials and testing over several months, the company introduced this technology to the market with great success, including its first commercial installation of an MVR system at a 150 KLD plant in Tiruppur.
Founded in 2006 by Mr. Prakash Narayanan, Chemin Enviro Systems has become a prominent name in the wastewater treatment sector, especially in the textile industry. The company is known for its comprehensive range of Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) solutions for the textile sector, including technologies like Multiple Effect Evaporators (MEE), Agitated Thin Film Dryers (ATFD), and Sludge Dryers, among others. Over the years, Chemin has installed nearly 350 wastewater treatment plants across India, with a significant portion of these catering to the textile sector.
“One of the key benefits of our MVR technology is that it brings down the operating cost from approximately Rs 1,100 per kiloliter (KL) to Rs 600 per KL. This is achieved because MVR helps save a lot of energy in the form of steam, making it a very energy-efficient solution. While the initial capital expenditure (capex) for MVR systems might be higher, the long-term savings in operating costs make it a highly cost-effective solution for industries with large wastewater treatment requirements,” Mr. Vikas Rathi VP (Sales) at Chemin Enviro Systems explained.
“The payback period for the initial investment is between 18 to 48 months, depending on the frequency of use,” he added. This makes the MVR system an attractive option for industries looking to reduce their energy consumption while managing wastewater efficiently,” he added.
The Role of Piller Blowers: A Key Component of MVR Technology
The company sources the blower used in its MVR system from Piller, Germany, and a renowned and trusted brand in the blower industry. “We differentiate ourselves by using Piller blowers in our MVR technology. These are high-performance blowers, well-tested for reliability and durability. We rigorously tested our MVR technology over eight months to ensure that the system performed optimally before beginning commercial sales,” Mr. Rathi emphasized.
“The results from our first-ever installation in Tiruppur have been fantastic. The plant is performing exceptionally well, and we are confident that our MVR system can offer tremendous value to our customers,” Mr. Rathi shared.
This attention to detail and emphasis on using the best components ensures that Chemin Enviro Systems’ MVR technology not only delivers exceptional energy savings but also stands out in terms of long-term reliability and performance.
Pioneering Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) Solutions for the Textile Industry
Chemin Enviro Systems has built a strong reputation as a provider of Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) solutions, which have become crucial in the textile industry. “Our primary clientele is the textile industry, largely because of our proximity to the textile hub in Tiruppur. We can proudly say that one in every three evaporator plants installed in Tiruppur is from Chemin Enviro Systems,” Mr. Rathi stated with confidence.
Innovative Sludge Dryer: A Solution for Reducing Disposal Costs
Another key innovation from Chemin Enviro Systems is its Sludge Dryer, designed specifically to address the high moisture content of sludge produced in wastewater treatment. Typically, industrial sludge contains up to 80% moisture, which can make disposal costly and challenging.
“Our Sludge Dryer system reduces the moisture content of the sludge from 80% to just 10%. This significantly lowers disposal costs, as many states charge disposal fees based on the weight of the sludge,” Mr. Rathi explained. In the past, the disposal costs for wet sludge were largely driven by the water content, but now, thanks to the Sludge Dryer, the need for drying sludge on sludge drying beds or other facilities is eliminated, making the entire process much more efficient and cost-effective and aesthetic.
The Sludge Dryer is a part of Chemin’s comprehensive approach to providing sustainable wastewater treatment solutions that not only address water quality concerns but also minimize the environmental impact of industrial wastewater treatment processes.
A Focus on Energy Efficiency and Sustainability
Chemin Enviro Systems has always emphasized the importance of reducing energy consumption in its technologies. Over the years, the company has consistently focused on optimizing the performance of its wastewater treatment solutions to ensure they are energy-efficient while delivering superior results.
“For the past 18 years, we have continually worked on reducing the steam and electricity costs for our customers. For instance, a system that previously required 10 KW of electricity now only requires 8.5 KW. Similarly, we have been able to reduce steam consumption from 100 kgs to 85 kgs, and we’re now targeting further reductions to 80 kgs,” Mr. Rathi observed.
These energy-saving advancements have made a significant difference for industries looking to reduce their operational costs and improve their environmental footprint. By developing technologies that consume less energy and deliver the same or better results, Chemin Enviro Systems has positioned itself as a leader in sustainable wastewater treatment solutions.
Dedicated R&D for Customized Solutions and Continuous Innovation
Chemin Enviro Systems’ Research & Development (R&D) team plays a pivotal role in the company’s ability to innovate and tailor its solutions to the specific needs of customers. The company’s R&D team is not only responsible for designing new technologies but also for customizing wastewater treatment plants to meet the unique requirements of different industries and clients.
“We have a dedicated R&D setup that helps us design, develop, and customize wastewater treatment plants for our customers,” Mr. Rathi said. The company’s focus on R&D ensures that its solutions remain at the cutting edge of technology, providing customers with the best possible outcomes.
The water recovery percentage of Chemin’s treatment plants is exceptionally high, typically between 97-98%, and the quality of the treated water is comparable to potable water, meeting the stringent requirements of industrial and environmental standards.
