C.R.I. ventures into waste water pump market with Italian technology

Keeping abreast of the technology trends is imperative to ensure success in any business undertaking. Newer, faster and better technology gives one a competitive edge in the market. Undoubtedly, leading the way in technology innovation is C.R.I. Pumps. After the successful launch of high end non-metallic uPVC, CPVC pipes and specialty wires and cables, C.R.I. has now forayed into wastewater solutions with Italian technology.

The recent acquisition of the four decade-old Fabbrica Italiana Pompe Sommergibili Srl (FIPS), Milan, Italy, equips C.R.I. Pumps to launch the complete range of sewage and wastewater pump solutions with Italian technology in India. The range includes sewage pumps, drainage pumps, mixers, agitators, aerators, auto coupling and accessories. With this, C.R.I. will provide complete wastewater solutions to handle raw water, sewage, effluent, storm water and processed water in municipal, utility and industrial applications.

C.R.I is one among the few pump manufacturers in the world to offer upto 800 kW (1080 hp) sewage pumps for handling huge volumes. It has special features like optimized hydraulic design with vortex, cutter, mono & multi-channel impellers for challenging applications, and offered in stainless steel, duplex, super duplex, Hastelloy, grey iron for most corrosive and aggressive applications. Equipped with IE2 / IE3 efficiency motors with H-Class insulation, oil probe sensors ensure proper lubrication and also prevent oil contamination.

The pumps are available from 500 to 3600 RPM (2 pole to 12 poles) ranging from 0.5 hp to 1080 hp (50 Hz & 60 Hz). They come with in-built grinder / cutter to cut solid particles.

Announcing the launch of wastewater pumps with pride, Mr. G. Soundararajan, Vice Chairman, C.R.I. Group, said: “The world pump market estimated at $42 billion, in which the wastewater pump market is valued at $9 billion. Municipal wastewater plants are the major users, contributing to nearly 23 per cent of the end-user market. The other major users are industries like food & beverages, sugar, textile, paint, tannery, paper & pulp, chemical, pharmaceutical and process industries. The Asian region is considered a key growth market, with China and India topping the list”.

The Indian raw and wastewater market is estimated around Rs. 2,000 crores. The Indian wastewater market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 12 per cent during 2016-2021. Rapid urbanisation, water scarcity, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) norms, and industrialisation are factors that contribute to market demand. The Swachh Bharat Mission, Smart Cities, the National River Conservation Plan (NRCP) and the Clean River Ganga Mission will give further boost to the municipal wastewater treatment industry in the coming years.

As per the latest Ministry of Environment communication, Currently 62,000 MLD of wastewater is generated in urban areas of India, while the capacity for treating wastewater stands at a mere 23,000 MLD.

Untreated sewage & industrial effluents pollute the surface and ground water which is the main source of drinking water, leading to public health concerns. The per capita water supply currently stands at 188.73 litres/day. A massive 73 per cent of this becomes wastewater, reflecting the seriousness of the wastewater problem. India ranks an alarming third position in the list of most water-polluted countries based on the deteriorating quality of water ranking.

By 2030, water demand is expected to grow to 1.5 trillion Cu.m., with supply at about 740 billion Cu.m., leading to a whopping 50 per cent shortage in India. In this scenario, wastewater recycle and reuse is a more economical measure, thus increasing the demand for wastewater pumps and treatment systems. According to C.R.I., weak regulatory enforcements and lack of public awareness seem to be the industry constraints. The rapid growth of urban population is creating huge pressure on the existing water and wastewater infrastructure.

Mr. Soundararajan further observed: “C.R.I. with its 7 foreign subsidiary companies, 32 branches in India and the strong distribution network available in 120 countries will greatly help to market these products for the growing global demand. Further, the reputation of being a well-recognised brand amongst MEP (Mechanical Electrical & Plumbing) consultants, STP & ETP (Sewage Treatment Plant and Effluent Treatment Plant), EPC (Engineering Procurement & Construction) companies, industrial consultants and contractors with over five-decades of service to the fluid industry, will help us achieve our targets and become a prominent player in wastewater pump industry too”.
