Birla Cellulose, a leader in sustainable fiber solutions, reaffirmed its dedication to driving sustainability in the home textiles sector by hosting the second edition of the hub-meet at The Residency, Karur, on August 30, 2024. The event highlighted the transformative potential of sustainable Man-Made Cellulosic Fibers (MMCF) in home textiles, with over 110 prominent exporters and industry leaders from the Karur cluster in attendance. The discussions centered on leveraging eco-friendly MMCF solutions to create high-quality, sustainable products aligned with modern consumer preferences.
“Karur’s home textile industry, valued at approximately Rs 9,000 crore, appreciates Birla Cellulose’s initiative in guiding us toward adopting the MMCF range. We are eager to integrate their fibers into our offerings, and the incubation process has already begun,” shared Mr. Gopal Krishnan, President of the Karur Textile Manufacturer Exporters Association.
Key industry figures, including Mr. Gopal Krishnan, President of Karur Textile Manufacturer Exporters Association, and Mr. Velusamy, Assistant Director of the Textile Committee in Karur, along with stalwarts such as Mr. Perumal, Managing Director of South Indian Textiles, and Mr. Kaliappan, Managing Director of Anboli Fabrics, were present. The event also saw participation from value chain partners like AGT Mills, PKPN, Kumaran, Sutlej Textiles, and Kumaraguru Mills, all committed to advancing sustainable practices in the textile ecosystem.
One of the highlights of the meet was the enthusiastic interest shown by exporters in Birla Cellulose’s innovative product range, particularly Spunshades, which features Colour Lock Technology to prevent fading even after multiple washes, embedding dye pigments directly into the fiber. This sparked discussions about trial initiatives to incorporate these products into their operations.
Mr. Kaliappan, Managing Director of Anboli Fabrics, added, “The detailed presentation on Birla Cellulose’s product offerings provided deep insights into the potential applications of their fibers in home textiles.”
T. Murugan, Global Head of Business Development at Birla Cellulose, expressed optimism about the industry’s response: “The enthusiasm shown at the Karur hub-meet reinforces our belief in the transformative power of sustainable innovation. Our products, including Spunshades and Lyocell blends with cotton, are set to redefine the home textiles landscape, and the overwhelming interest is truly encouraging.”
