Reflecting on the previous edition’s success, Rajkumar Ramasamy, Managing Director of BCPL, shares, “Anyone involved in the textile industry in India should participate in Bharat Tex. It serves as a gateway to present India’s textile industry to the world. Even for us, as industry insiders, it was surprising to see the vast variety of textiles available across different regions of India, during the first edition of the trade show. We will be showcasing our latest collections at the event.”

Eventful journey

Sharing the company’s illustrious history, Rajkumar reflects, “Best Corporation has a legacy of 57 years, founded by my father, Mr. Ramasamy—popularly known as ‘Best’ Ramasamy. I stepped into the business in 1992, bringing with me a vision to expand and modernize our operations.”

Today, BCPL stands as a fully integrated apparel giant, managing every stage from fiber sourcing to finished garment exports. The company specializes in knitted garments, with a strong focus on babywear and innerwear, while also catering to the domestic fabric and yarn market.

BCPL’s growth has been substantial, now boasting a 10,000-strong workforce with operations spanning multiple locations.

“Our core operations are centered in Tirupur, but we have extended our global footprint with manufacturing facilities in Ethiopia and Kenya. We have also recently established a state-of-the-art apparel factory in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, “he adds.

Diverse product portfolio

BCPL is recognized for its excellence in manufacturing babywear and inner wear. Elaborating on the products Rajkumar Ramasamy explains, “Our core product categories are babywear and innerwear. Innerwear includes loungewear and nightwear.”

With a strong export market, the company serves prestigious global brands across the United States and Europe. “Our exports are split roughly 60% to the US and 40% to Europe. We take immense pride in manufacturing for some of the most reputable global brands, delivering exceptional quality and consistency, “he says.

Expanding global reach

While BCPL has built a strong presence internationally, Rajkumar Ramasamy notes a significant surge in domestic demand. “Historically, our business was nearly 100% export-driven. However, in recent years, we have seen tremendous growth in domestic demand. Today, 15% of our revenue comes from domestic sales, and we foresee this increasing to 25% within the next two years,” he says.

Additionally, BCPL is exploring emerging markets, throwing light on which he states, “Apart from the US and Europe, Japan is an exciting new market showing strong potential. There is also growing interest from Australia, and we are actively evaluating expansion opportunities there.”

Robust manufacturing infrastructure

As an integrated textile company BCPL takes pride in its modern manufacturing infrastructure. Elaborating on the same, Rajkumar Ramasamy notes, “We have a strong manufacturing infrastructure. We have 140000 spindles for spinning, along with fabric processing facilities and apparel factories. We manufacture around 2.5 million garments per month.”

“We currently operate eight factories in the Tirupur region, one in Kenya, one in Ethiopia, and one in Madhya Pradesh. Additionally, we are in the process of setting up a new fabric plant.”

“We are leveraging the PLI (Production Linked Incentive) Scheme for man-made fibers (MMF), as part of our expansion plans. This project is currently under implementation and production is expected to commence in April. The new facility at SIPCOT, Perundurai, Tamil Nadu will focus on producing high quality synthetic fabrics for the export market,” he adds.

Sustainability; a core commitment

Sustainability has always been a fundamental principle at BCPL. Rajkumar Ramasamy highlights the company’s eco-conscious approach:

“Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. We are proud to be a 100% carbon-neutral company, “he highlights.

While the past few years have been challenging, global shifts in geopolitics and proactive government policies have placed the textile industry on a strong growth trajectory.”

Key factors fueling this momentum include:

  • Government-backed initiatives, such as Bharat Tex and the PLI scheme.
  • Heightened global demand for India as a preferred sourcing destination.
  • Enhanced industry capabilities, strengthening India’s position as a textile powerhouse.

“We anticipate the next five to ten years to be a golden period for India’s textile sector, with strong expansion in both exports and domestic consumption.”
